amalgamremove-CSSHave you been putting off needed dental treatment because you have a tendency towards dental anxiety? Does dental anxiety (or phobia) make you perspire just thinking about sitting in a dentist chair?

If so, your smile may be paying the price. Well take heart, Somerset Family Dental is here to help! Our dedicated dentist, Dr. Brandon J. Ryff, is happy to offer conscious sedation for our patients in Gilbert, Arizona, and the surrounding areas who struggle with anxiety during dental procedures.

Following are three conscious sedation options we offer our patients:

Nitrous Oxide

Did you know that laughing gas parties using nitrous oxide was a popular pastime of the British upper class during the late 1700’s? Well it’s true, and the dental community began using it in the 1860’s to calm anxious patients. This colorless gas is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through the nose by breathing normally. You will be able to hear and respond to questions and instructions during your procedure. Simply sit back, relax, and breathe comfortably through your nose while we work on your smile.

Oral Sedation

With oral sedation, we simply prescribe you a pill to take an hour before your upcoming visit, and depending on the dosage, it can range from minimal to moderate sedation. This sedation dentistry will make you drowsy and you will still be awake, although some people become groggy enough from the moderate level and can nod off during the procedure. You will, however, be easily awakened with a gentle shake.

IV Sedation

With IV sedation, we administer the medication through your veins. This type of sedation works quickly, and allows us to control the level of sedation which makes you stay comfortable and free of pain. While IV sedation allows you to remain conscious, you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep during your treatment. It is also possible that you may not remember the details of your procedure even though you are awake.

So whether you are having your teeth cleaned, or having a tooth extracted, Dr. Ryff and our Somerset Family Dental team in Gilbert, Arizona, are committed to helping you have a positive dental experience during your time with us. To schedule your next visit, please call 480-359-1478, and let our conscious sedation options help you get the treatment you need with the comfort you deserve!
