Invisalign is a brand of clear plastic aligners that is popular among adults that want to make minor adjustments to the alignment of their teeth, without the use of traditional wire-and-bracket braces. Their clear plastic aligners make it hard for the casual observer to even notice you’re wearing them.
To be fitted for Invisalign, Dr. Brandon J. Ryff will need to:
– Examine your mouth and take a few X-rays. This provides a clear understanding of the structure of your mouth and also helps to define your alignment goals.
– Form an impression of your teeth, which will serve as a guide for the Invisalign laboratory that produces your custom sets of aligners.
– Ensure proper fit once the first set comes back from the lab.
Each set of aligners is designed to gradually and progressively adjust the periodontal ligaments anchoring your teeth into the sockets. You will need to wear the Invisalign for at least 20 hours a day.
After about two weeks you will switch to another set of aligners that will bring your teeth a little bit closer to their ideal alignment. Treatment time varies based on your individual needs, but some people meet their alignment goals in as little as six to eight weeks.
While you can drink normally while wearing Invisalign, you will need to remove them when eating. You should not smoke and chew gum with the aligners are in your mouth. When you are not wearing Invisalign you should keep the aligners in the case provided.
